Grant County Emergency Management is requesting assistance in documenting and assessing the damage sustained across Grant County during the storm that hit the area on May 12.

Did you experience damage? The 211 Helpline is a new service provided by the State of South Dakota and will be used to collect data for our county and to help identify the needs of Grant County residents.

Kevin Schuelke, head of Grant County Management, says, “Individuals, rural property owners, farms, business owners, and townspeople are urged to call 211. Please let your friends and neighbors who might not use social media know about this service.”

Schuelke advises, “When you call 211, have your information ready. Callers can describe buildings using four categories: 1.) Destroyed.  2.) Major Damage.  3.) Minor Damage or 4.) Affected. Also, please report if the building or property is insured.”

The information gathered will be used to compile the Initial Impact and Damage Assessment report and submitted to South Dakota’s State Office of Emergency Management.
