The 25th Annual It Only Takes a Spark Cancer Walk starts this Friday, June 10 at 5 p.m. and continues into early Saturday morning, June 11.
Julie Landmark, chairperson of the event, said, “Darby Helms will offer the opening prayer. The National Anthem will be sung by Jayden Johnson, and Audrey Mogard, of Milbank, will serve as this year’s honorary chair.”
Eight teams are fired up and ready to go. They include POET, St. Williams, Marching Medics, Nani O’ Hana, Second Chances, Bulldogs, Team Hope, and the Big Stone Bookends.
The annual community picnic, held from 5-7 p.m., has a new sponsor and a new menu. The Millstone Family Restaurant is sponsoring the picnic and you won’t have any trouble finding them. Follow the sound and smell of Polish sausages and hotdogs sizzling on the grill. Along with your sausage, you’ll get chips, watermelon, and a cookie. Just bring your appetite and your free-will offering.
Pepsi has donated the drinks and The Millstone has donated the food. The Milbank Kiwanis will be serving the meal.
Deb Bowsher, owner of The Millstone Family Restaurant, who is a recent cancer survivor said, “I knew once I got past my cancer treatments, I wanted to give something back because I had received help during my journey. When this opportunity came up, I thought it was perfect.”
Enjoy all the evening’s festivities and stick around for the fireworks at dark!
