Hope Karels, a junior at MHS and owner of HK Cupcakes, baked over 40 dozen cupcakes to  raise funds for victims of the Castlewood tornado. On Saturday, May 28, Karels set up a pop-up shop at Urban Threads in Milbank, courtesy of owner Lindsey Keller. Shoppers chose from seven flavors: vanilla, oreo, red velvet, peanut butter, strawberry, lemon, and caramel cashew.

Karels donated her time baking, frosting, and selling the desserts and will present a check for the proceeds of $700 to the Castlewood Community Foundation. She attributes her baking success to her nine-year membership in Grant County 4-H and, in particular, her involvement in the Foods and Nutrition project and the Special Foods contest.  She is the daughter of Jason and Susan Karels.
