Legion Post 9 destroyed Sisseton in two games on Thursday, June 9, at Pribyl Park in Milbank. Both games ended early when the 10-run mercy rule was invoked. Post 9 won both games 10-0 and extended their winning streak to six games.

Game One After back-to-back shutout innings by pitcher Isaac Schulte, Post 9 got their offense going. With two outs, Sage Locke was hit by a pitch and joined Aiden Rabe on base after Rabe had reached on an error. Kaden Krause drew a walk to load the bases, and Cole Swenson kept things moving when he drew a walk. Milbank was out in front early with a 1-0 lead.  
In Post 9’s next at-bat, Kellen Hoeke cleared the bases with a double off the wall to make it 4-0. Merik Junker scored Hoeke with an RBI single and Milbank surged ahead at 5-0.

In the bottom of the third, Isaac Schulte got hit by a pitch, to put a runner on first for Milbank. Mikey Karges then singled and Sage Locke followed with a double to score Schulte and Karges.  Milbank now held a 7-0 lead. Kaden Krause drew a one-out walk to put runners on first and second with only one out. Cole Swenson brought both Krause and Locke home with a triple to right field to bump Milbank’s lead to 9-0. Hoeke was hit by the next pitch, Junker drew a walk to load the bases, and Justus Osborn was hit by a pitch to score one more for Post 9 and end the game due to the ten-run mercy rule.

Isaac Schulte hurled a one-hit, four-strikeout victory in three innings. Kellen Hoeke led Post 9’s offense with two hits and three RBIs. Merik Junker also had two hits and added another RBI.


Game Two In game two, Post 9 scratched the scoring column right away in the bottom of the first inning. Kaden Krause started with a lead-off triple to right field. Kellen Hoeke brought Krause home with a single to left field to give Milbank a 1-0 advantage. Hoeke then came around the bases when Merit Junker doubled to left field. Post 9 led 2-0. 

Justus Osborn drew a walk to put runners on first and second with one out to set the stage for Isaac Schulte. Schulte reached on an error by the left fielder, and Junker scored to cushion Post 9’s lead at 3-0.

Aiden Rabe got things rolling in the bottom of the second by reaching on an error by the pitcher. Krause tripled to right field for the second inning in a row to increase Milbank’s lead to 4-0.

Cole Swenson reached on an error by the shortstop and gave Krause the opportunity to make it home and add another run to Post 9’s scoring column. Hoeke added to his big game when he got his fifth RBI of the night on a double to centerfield to increase the gap to 6-0. Junker joined Hoeke on base after he drew a four-pitch walk. 

Schulte brought both guys home with a double to right field which stretched their lead to 8-0. Karges traded places with Schulte at second after he hit a RBI double to take the score to 9-0.

Post 9 needed only one more run for the 10-run mercy rule to come into effect and Swenson delivered. He reached first base on an error by the third baseman, and Junker moved him to third with a single to left field. Osborn ended game two as he did game one with a single. This one scored Swenson, and Post 9 racked up their sixth victory in a row!

Krause, Hoeke, and Junker led the way with two hits. Hoeke totaled 6 RBIs for the night along with four hits. Junker and Swenson combined for the no-hit shutout and a combined total of five strikeouts.
