Marion Mischel met her goal of placing in the top ten at South Dakota’s 2022 Class A Girls Golf Tournament held June 6-7 at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls. Mischel ended her high school career on a high note in a tie for ninth place with Stephanie Carr of Vermillion at +34.

Mark Keeton, Mischel’s coach at MHS, said, “Last year Marion completed a goal to medal with a tie for 21st place. This year heading into state tournament, we were looking for a top-ten finish. (We knew) it would be no easy task as last year’s defending champ was in the field along with many other top finishers from last season.”

“Marion did a great job both days keeping the ball in play, staying away from penalty strokes, and avoiding the big number that can really hurt the card,” stated Coach Keeton. “More importantly,” he added, “her mental game was at its best taking the good with the bad and never letting one bad shot turn into two.”

Mischel finished her high school varsity career with three state tournament appearances. (There was no golf season her sophomore year due to Covid.) She improved each year and medaled twice.

Olivia Sorlie of Canton at +13 won the tournament. Keva Burshiem of Flandreau was just one stroke behind her for second place, and Maiya Muller of Beresford was two strokes behind her at +15 for third.
In the team standings, Sioux Falls Christian took home the title. Vermillion finished in second place. Canton was third, Winner was fourth, and Madison captured fifth.
