Post 9 battled with Castlewood Post 250 on Thursday evening, June 23, at Pribyl Park in Milbank. Castlewood won the first game at 6-4 in nine innings and the second game at 11-7.
Game One Post 9 was trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, but their offense finally came alive. Kaden Krause led off by getting hit by a pitch, and Cole Swenson followed in the next at-bat with a triple to score Krause. Kellen Hoeke hit a single to center to score Swenson from third and cut the deficit to 3-2. Merik Junker tied the game at three when he tripled to centerfield to score Hoeke. Junker also scored on a sacrifice fly to give Post 9 the lead at 4-3.
Castlewood tied things up again in the top of the seventh and took the lead in the top of the ninth to defeat Post 9 6-4 in extra innings.
Swenson, Hoeke, and Junker led the Post 9 offense with two hits and one RBI each. Kaden Krause tallied one hit and one walk.
Game Two In game two, Post 9 got rolling in the bottom of the third. Kaden Krause reached first on an error by the third baseman. Cole Swenson followed it with a walk to put runners on first and second. Kellen Hoeke was hit by a pitch to load the sacks for Merik Junker. Junker hit a sacrifice fly to score Krause and get Milbank on the board at 6-1. Isaac Schulte then hit a single to score Swenson and inch Milbank closer at 6-2. Mason Meister added another single up the middle to get Hoeke home and close the gap a bit more at 6-3.
Micah Sire led off with a single in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Schulte drew a walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Swenson sent Sire home on a single to centerfield and cut the deficit to 10-4. Hoeke then roped a single to centerfield to bring home J. Schulte. The score stood at 10-5. I. Schulte’s two-out double brought Swenson and Hoeke home to give Milbank hope at 10-7, but Post 9 could not produce any more runs and Castlewood added one more to their total to take the win at 11-7.
