The Milbank Area Lions Swim Team (MALST) competed at the 2022 Splash Central Invitational in Huron from June 24-26. TyLynn Wellnitz competed in the female 9-10 division. She earned first place in the 200-meter freestyle, first place in the 400-meter freestyle, first place in the100-meter backstroke, second place in the 200-meter IM, second place in the 50-meter backstroke, fifth place in the 50-meter breaststroke, and fifth place in the 50-meter freestyle. She also entered the 50-meter butterfly.
Jada Leigh Wellnitz, swam in the female 11-12 division. She received ninth place in the 400-meter freestyle, 12th place in the 200-meter freestyle, 13th place in the 200-meter IM, 25th place in the 50-meter butterfly, 24th place in the 50-meter backstroke, 19th place in the 100-meter freestyle, 19th place in the 100-meter backstroke, 28th place in he 50-meter breaststroke, and 19th place in the 50-meter freestyle. Tate Pew was the lone MALST swimmer to compete in the 2022 WFF Summer Explosion from June 24-26 at the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota. Pew, who swam in the male age 13-14 division, received 16th place in the 100-meter backstroke and 29th place in the 50-meter freestyle.
What’s next for the MALST swimmers? The team completes their annual Lap-a-thon June 29-30. Then, the 12 and under swimmers travel to a meet in Webster on July 7.
