Hey, Kids! Lake Farley Park is the place to be on the 4th of July. Bring your family for fishing, food, fireworks, and more! ... Family Fun at Farley Park on July 4th

Hey, Kids! Lake Farley Park is the place to be on the 4th of July. Bring your family for fishing, food, fireworks, and more!

Want to learn to fly a kite? Bring your kite or grab a kite at the park and give it a try. The kids fishing tournament is also guaranteed to be buckets of fun. Don’t forget to refuel! Guadalupe’s food truck will be there to keep you going. At the end of the day, sit back, relax, and celebrate Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. Bring your own chair or blanket and some cash for the 50/50 raffle to help defray the cost of the fireworks.

In the afternoon, gear up for the Fourth Annual Kids Fishing Tournament from 3-5 p.m. It’s free to enter and you could win a prize!
No fishing pole? No problem. Rick and Wendy Hentges, hosts of the tournament, will have 50 poles ready for you courtesy of South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. Feel free to bring your own pole if you have one, but UPI donates the bait. If you’re a young tadpole, bring an adult to assist you.
Every kid up to age 14 is welcome. No experience is necessary. There’s even a prize for the youngest angler who catches a fish. Reel in the biggest fish or the most fish and you win a great prize, too. More prizes will also be awarded in a random drawing of all the fisherkids who participate. Stick around for that at 5 p.m. You could bag a new rod and reel (40 available), tackle box, bait bucket, or some really cool tackle. You can thank Dave Schell for donating your prize.

Nothing beats the smile of a kid when they catch a fish, and that’s the reason the Hentges say they started this tournament. “We love fishing and want to encourage the younger kids to fish and have a fun family outing on the Fourth.”
It’s all part of the 2022 4th of July Celebration brought to you by the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce.
