The Fourth Annual 4th of July Kids Fishing Tournament was held at Lake Farley Park in Milbank. Wendy Hentges, who started the event along with her husband, Rick, said, “We had 62 kids in the tournament and 229 fish were caught.”

Denise Tirado caught only one fish, but it was a beauty, and she won the prize for the biggest fish. Her bullhead weighed in at .88 pounds. Dexter Wellnitz reeled in 30 fish to take home the prize for the most fish caught. Bau Bentz landed two fish and at two years and five months old won the youngest fisherman award.

Hentges said, “We were very happy with the turnout this year, and everyone had a great time. We had a blast, too. The kids get so excited when they catch their first fish!”

She thanked Duane Tillman, an EMT, who volunteered to be on hand in case of an injury. She also thanked UPI Petroleum for donating the night crawlers, Dave Schell for donating the majority of the prizes, the entire Pekelder family for teaching kids how to bait a hook and cast, and the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks for the use of their fishing poles.
