Four Milbank Middle School and Milbank High School band students played in Brass at the Twins at Target Field on Sunday, June 26. The Milbank musicians joined approximately 40 other students and adults in playing “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to the opening pitch of the Minnesota Twins versus Colorado Rockies baseball game.
Students who participated include: Anna Neugebauer, freshman on trumpet; Sam Shelstad, eighth grader on tuba; Sam Wilson, eighth grader on trumpet; and Andrew Karels, seventh grader on trumpet.
The annual Brass at the Twins event was started by Del Lyren in 2012. Lyren, originally from Brookings, retired in May 2020 after a distinguished career at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota.
