Taylor Boerger’s stellar pitching performance lifted the Milbank Firechiefs to a 6-0 victory over the Clark Traders on Tuesday, July 5, at Pribyl Park in Milbank. The Firechiefs improved their season record to 8-2.
Zeros filled the scoring columns in the first inning, but the Firechiefs put in a crooked number in the bottom of the second. Lance Frogner reached first on an error by the second baseman, and Mitch Quade singled to right field to score Frogner and get Milbank on the board at 1-0. Travis Lester grounded out, but he allowed Quade to make it home from third to increase the locals’ lead to 2-0.
T. Boerger started the offense in the bottom of the third with a leadoff walk. Justin Larson moved him over to second with a sacrifice bunt. Brady Krause then singled to left field to put runners on the corners. Dom Boerger grounded out, but scored his brother to push the score to 3-0. B. Krause also came around to score on an error and the Firechiefs led 4-0.
Milbank added some insurance runs with assistance from Quade and Lester. They received back-to-back walks to put runners on first and second with two outs. Ronnie Krause and T. Boerger were then hit by back-to-back pitches to move the score to 5-0 and keep the bases loaded for Larson. Larson drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to secure the victory for the Firechiefs at 6-0.
T. Boerger recorded a one-hit shutout in nine innings. He allowed only one hit and two walks and struck out 16 Clark batters. B. Krause, Quade, and R. Krause tallied one hit apiece for the Firechiefs’ offense.
