Arlene Isabelle (Wunschel) Jurgens was born on March 31, 1924, in Lee Township of Roberts County, SD, to Walter and Hazle (Stewart) Wunschel. She grew up on a farm in Lee Township attending school through eighth grade at country school and attending two years at Wilmot High School.

On December 9, 1945, Arlene was united in marriage with Sherman Jurgens in a double wedding with some friends. To this union, they became the proud parents of their son, Mark. Arlene helped on the Jurgens family farm with chores and household responsibilities. She also sold Beeline clothing at home parties. Sherman and Arlene lived on the family farm until 2006, when they moved to Wilmot.

Having a fondness of people, Arlene loved to visit with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She also had an affection for animals, especially her Dachshund dogs. Arlene belonged to the Christ Lutheran Church for many years where she served on the Church Aide Group. She was never one to turn someone down when they needed help and she did everything she could to help out the people she cared about. Arlene was a wise woman and enjoyed passing on her bits of wisdom when someone needed it. She loved to send greeting cards to her friends and family and always requested to have a card shower for her birthday.

Left to cherish Arlene’s memory are her son, Mark; three grandchildren: Shawna, Kayla, and Shane; four great-grandchildren: Bennett, Emma, Jackston, and Kailey; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman in 2010; her parents; and best friend, Clarissa (Kenneth) Gruneich.
