The Lady Bulldogs varsity team took on a tough Sioux Valley team (9-4) on Tuesday, September 20, at the Cossack Center in Volga. Milbank struggled in each set, but posted scores of 18-25, 14-25, and 20-25. 

Nancy Hoeke, head coach for MHS, said, “Sioux Valley has so many weapons they can go to to score. They are tall and are good blockers, along with being good defenders.”

Overall, Milbank was 43 of 54 serving for an average of 80 percent. Hallie Schulte led the Lady Bulldogs at seven of seven. Casside Seezs followed with four of four, and Isabella Anderson was one of one.  Rachel Schulte hit eight of 10. She recorded two aces. Addisyn Krause was 11 of 14 and also recorded two aces. Averie Engebretson counted six of eight. Shaylee Schuchard was three of four. She had one ace. Laney Forette made two of four.On the attack, R. Schulte led the team. She was 25 of 28 with seven kills. Claire Snaza was five of five with two kills. H. Schulte went three of three with two kills.Schuchard was 11 of 13 with two kills. Skyler Skoog, five of eight with two kills; Rylie Overby, 15 of 22 with two kills; Seezs, six of 12 with two kills; Anderson, one of one with one kill; Forrette, five of six with one kill; and Engebretson, 14 of 17 with one kill.

Engebretson also recorded 11 assists. Krause had seven. H. Schulte contributed the most digs. She had13. Engebretson had 11; Krause, 10; R. Schulte. nine; and Emily Wollschlager, six.

The Lady Bulldogs made six blocks. All were assisted. Claire Snaza had two.  R. Schulte, Overby, Skoog, and Forette each had one.

What’s next for the Lady Bulldogs varsity team? Milbank travels to Redfield on Thursday, September 22, to face the Lady Pheasants.

JV Team The Lady Bulldogs JV team defeated Sioux Valley 2-1 on Tuesday, September 20, at the Cossack Center in Volga. Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, and 15-12. Head Coach Kelli Pillatzki attributed the win to several factors. She said, “The girls did a good job playing through hardship and playing to the whistle.”

Abby Pillatzki led the team in serving.  She was 10 of 11 with four aces. Shaylee Schuchard followed with 15 of 16 with two aces. Schuchard also recorded three blocks. Hailey Zinter put up six of six serving. Zinter also added an ace.
 

A, Pillatzki also led the way in setting. She was 40 of 40 with 13 assists. Rylee Scoular was next at 11 of 12 with one assist.  Zinter went six of six with one assist.

When it came to hitting, Isabella  Anderson showed her skill with 17 of 19 and 10 kills. Siera Wenzl followed at 10 of 14 with five kills. Claire Snaza posted two of three with two kills. She also added two blocks to the team total of five.

Ella Sandvig contributed 14 digs. Wenzl had nine. Coach Pillatzki said the team’s strategy is to continue to “work on playing with consistency and communicating more effectively.”  The JV Lady Bulldogs can put that to the test when they take on the Lady Pheasants on Thursday, September 22, in Redfield. 

Eighth-Grade Team

The Lady Bulldogs’ eighth-grade team traveled to Volga on Tuesday, September 20, to take on the Lady Cossacks of Sioux Valley. They played two matches.
In the first match, Milbank was defeated 0-2 with scores of 12-25 and 22-25. Kennedi Sayler was eight of nine serving with one ace. She also had three assists. Morgean French went seven of seven serving with one ace.  French also added two kills.  Bailey Koepke hit six of six serving with one ace. She had one kill. Estelle Schweer marked one of three serving and contributed one kill. Isabella Flores posted five of six serving. Macyn Dunnihoo tallied four of four serving and added a kill. Hallee Green did not serve in match one.

In the second match, Milbank lost 0-3 with set scores of 18-25, 18-25, and 9-25. Sayler made 11 of 11 serves with one ace.  Green went two of four serving with one kill. Kayla Schweer tallied six of seven serves with one ace. Heyden Montag was four of seven with one ace.  She also contributed a kill.  Flores made one of three. Tayla Trapp marked two of four serving and added three kills.  French hit one of three serves. Macyn Dunnihoo was zero of one. Yani Perez, Ella Pederson, and Ava Brunk played in the match, but did not serve.
Coach Becky Johnson said, “We go to Watertown on Thursday to play two matches, again.”

Seventh-Grade Team

Milbank seventh graders played against Sioux Valley on Tuesday, September 20 in Sioux Valley.  They played four games. The scores were 17 to 25, 11 to 25, 16 to 25, and 19 to 25. Coach Jennifer Schulte said,  “It was a tough night.”  The top servers for the night were Adison Pauli with 16 of 18 and 8 aces. Taylor Anderson with 7 of 11 serves and 2 aces. And Jossalynn  Spiering with 6 of 7 serves and 3 aces.
