The Milbank Area varsity cross country teams claimed second place at the Lac qui Parle Valley Invitational at Madison, Minnesota, on September 20. Individually, Payton Brown claimed first place for the Bulldogs. Ashlynn Batchelor took third for the Lady Bulldogs.As a team, the junior varsity girls won the title.

“Both teams are in a great position to have continued success as we approach the last month of the season,” said Eric Townsend, Milbank’s head coach. “The key will be staying healthy, injury free, and continuing to work hard in practice.” 

At the Lac qui Parle meet, the Milbank runners eked past Canby-Minneota, Minnesota, by one point to claim second place. “Both teams ran against some very good competition,” observed Townsend. “A number of the runners and teams were ranked in the state of Minnesota.” 

Varsity 5K
Brown outdistanced all runners in the 5K boys varsity race to finish as champion with a time of 17:19.15. Milbank tallied 77 points and placed second behind Murray County Central with 68 points. 
James Batchelor also had a top-10 finish. He placed ninth at 17:57.56. Other Bulldog runners included:  Bryan Meyer, 19:14.50; Isaac Graham, 19:16.83; Liam Heller, 19:29.35; Beckham Berry, 20:16.80, and Grant Van Peursem, 20:48.57. 

A. Batchelor crossed the finish line in third place in the girls 5K varsity race. She recorded a time of 20:01.02. Leah Meyer finished ninth with a time of 21:56.52. Other Milbank runners were Bianca Berry, 22:28.78; Maurina Street, 22:32.44; Tyra Berry, 23:05.37; Kynlee Speidel, 23:20.30, and Ellie Neugebauer, 23:42.35. 
The Bulldogs earned 62 points and were second behind Murray County Central with 34 points. 

JV Girls Milbank won the team title in the girls’ junior varsity division with 26 points. Lac qui Parle Valley-Dawson took second place with 45. 
StellaWendland paced the Bulldogs by placing second with a time of 23:48.34. Also in the top 10 were: Avery Schuneman in fourth place at 24:24.03; Elexia Quintanilla in fifth place at 24:24.92, and Ashlyn O’Farrell in ninth place at 25:11.86. 

Milbank times also included: (12) Macy Mueller, 26:05; (15) Jaclyn Wiik, 26:10.02; Yanderyn Olivares, 27:50.70; Sophia Gastineau, 28:13.87; Addie Farrell, 29:56.03, and Camryn Sovell, 30:11.46. 

JV Boys In the boys junior varsity race, Bulldog Jack Howard clocked in at 22:09.71. Rylan Wendland came across the line at 22:52.93. 

Junior High Girls Runners who competed in the girls junior high race for Milbank included: Zayda Townsend, 13:32.34, eighth; Raina Untalan, 13:32.59, ninth; Ava Sichmeller, 13:35, 10th; Belle Pauli, 14:42.82; BreeTownsend, 15:44.24, and Reese Schuneman, 16:42.69. 
Junior High Boys Franco Flores and Armando Chan represented the Bulldogs in the junior high division.  Flores finished with a time of 12:30.35. Chan came in at 14:44.89. 

What’s next for the Bulldogs? The Bulldogs traveled to Lennox on Thursday, September 29, for the Lenkota Invitational. Keep up with The Valley Express for those results.
