The Lady Bulldogs’ volleyball team used Parents Night on September 29, as an opportunity to showcase their skills. Milbank soundly defeated Britton-Hecla 3-0. Set scores were 25-10, 25-15, and 25-21.Nancy Hoeke, head coach for MHS, said, “This was our senior-parents’ night. We celebrated and recognized our seniors.” Senior players include: Jenna Dexter, Averie Engebretson, Laney Forrette, Riley Overby, Hallie Schulte, Casside Seezs, Camryn Wiese, and Emily Wollschlager.

During her recap of the match, Hoeke observed, “The girls did a good job of serving and passing. We served at 93 percent which is right where I’d like us to be. When we can be accurate passers, other parts of the game take care of themselves.”

To reach the 93 percent mark, Milbank hit  69 of 74 with seven aces. Overby was perfect at 15 of 15 with two aces.  Wollschlager followed suit at 10-10, as did Addisyn Krause, H. Schulte, Skyler Skoog, and Seezs. Krause, at nine of nine with two aces; H. Schulte, at nine of nine; Skoog, at three of three; and Seezs, at two of two.  Engebretson went 10 of 11 with two aces; R. Schulte was six of seven; Wiese, three of four with one ace; and Forrette and Abby Pilatzki were at one of two each.R. Schulte led Milbank’s attack. She chalked up 14 kills. Skoog had seven. Overby and Forrette had four apiece. Engebretson and Claire Snaza each provided three. Seezs contributed two. Engebretson also racked up 16 assists. Krause and Wiese added seven apiece.

R. Schulte, Wollschlager, and H. Schulte all donated nine digs. Krause and Engebretson each chipped in seven.
Snaza and Forrette also each recorded one solo block. R. Schulte, Skoog, Seezs, and Shaylee Schuchard supplied one assisted block apiece.

What’s next for the Lady Bulldogs? Milbank faces Deubrook Area in White on Tuesday, October 4.  The C team match starts at 5 p.m. The JV team takes over at 6:15 p.m., and the Varsity match follows.

JV Volleyball Team Topples Britton-Hecla The Lady Bulldogs’ JV volleyball team dismantled Britton-Hecla 2-0 in Milbank on Thursday, September 29. Set scores were 25-14 and 25-16.

Coach Kelli Pillatzki attributed some of the girls’ success to trying different plays and working well as a team. Pillatzki noted, “We will continue to work on our consistency and our serving accuracy.”

As a team, the girls attained an 87 percent serving average against the Braves.  Individually, Shaylee Schuchard was 13 of 14 with four aces; Hailey Zinter, six of seven with two aces; and Kaitlyn Huber; eight of 10 with two aces.

In setting, Abby Pillatzki went 21 of 21 and had six assists. Ryler Scoular was next at nine of nine with three assists. Claire Snaza contributed six kills and Siera Wenzl and Huber each had two.
Ella Sandvig led the team in digs. She had four. Shelbi Pollock made three, and Wenzl made two.
Snaza also added two blocks for the defense. Huber and Isabella Anderson each recorded one.

What’s next for volleyball? The Lady Bulldogs take on Deubrook tonight, October 4, in White.  In the auxiliary gym, the eighth graders match starts at  4 p.m. and the seventh graders follow.  In the main gym, the C team match starts at 5 p.m. The JV match begins at 6:15 p.m., and the varsity match follows.
