Milbank hosted Madison in volleyball for the 2022 Battle of the Bulldogs. The Milbank varsity team suffered the loss at 3-0. Set scores were 17-25, 21-25, and 22-25. 

Coach Nancy Hoeke commented, “We need to play teams like Madison that really challenge our level of play. It exposes our weaknesses and helps us to see what we need to work on.  We had a nice lead in the third set, but Madison went on a mission and took advantage of our errors. We have to be able to push through to the end of the set.”

Milbank posted a serving average of  87 percent. They hit 53 of 61 with 11 aces. Emily Wollschlager led the team at five of five. Casside Seezs went two of two with an ace. Addisyn Krause hit 11 of 12 with three aces. Rylee Overby was 10 of 11 with four aces.  Averie Engebretson, 10 of 11 with two aces; Hallie Schulte, nine of 10; Rachel Schulte, six of nine with one ace; and Abby Pillatzki, zero of one.

On the attack, R. Schulte went 27 of 37 with six kills. Engebretson, 15 of 15 with four kills; Skyler Skoog, 14 of 16 with three kills; Claire Snaza, eight of 11 with three kills; Overby, 17 of 23 with three kills; and Seezs nine of 16 with two kills. Engebretson was credited with 14 assists.

R. Schulte made 17 digs.  H. Schulte had 14. Wollschlager, 11;  Krause, five; Engebretson, four. Snaza and Skoog each recorded one assisted block. Overby and Engebretson made one apiece.
Next up for the Lady Bulldogs? MIlbank travels to Agency Village on October 13 to face the Tiospa Zina Wambdi.

Milbank JV –  2 vs. Madison JV – 0 Milbank’s  JV volleyball team hosted Madison for their 2022 Battle of the Bulldogs on Tuesday, October 11.  Milbank won the match at 2-0. Coach Kelli Pillatzki commented, “The girls did a nice job of moving the ball. They also did a good job of adjusting to changes.”

Siera Wenzl led the team to a 90 percent serving average. She hit seven of eight with two aces. Isabella Anderson went seven of seven with one ace.  Abby Pillatzki was six of seven with one ace.

A. Pillatzki also set the pace in setting. She was 31 of 31 with eight assists. Rylee Scoular was five of five with one assist. 

Anderson was the top hitter. She made four kills on 11 of 13 hitting. Wenzl also recorded four kills. She was six of 11. Claire Snaza went eight of 10 hitting with three kills.

Ella Sandvig recorded the team’s high for digs at seven. Wenzl had five. Shelbi Pollock and A. Pillatzki each contributed three. A. Pillatzki and Shayleee Schuchard contributed one assisted block apiece.
Coach Pillatzki says the girls will continue to work on their serving concentration and on strategic play.
What’s next for the JV team? Milbank travels to Agency Village to take on Tiospa Zina on Thursday, October 13.
