Lady Bulldogs Take Fourth at Milbank Volleyball Tourney

The Lady Bulldogs took fourth place in the annual Milbank Tournament they hosted on Saturday, October 15. The Lady Dawgs went 2-1 in pool play and then lost to Sioux Valley in the match to determine third place with a score of 1-2. Team standings included: (1) Mobridge-Pollock (2) Hamlin (3) Sioux Valley (4) Milbank (5) Groton (6) Beresford (7) Great Plains Lutheran (8) Sisseton.
Nancy Hoeke, head coach for Milbank, said, “Addisyn Krause’s serving got us off to a great start. In her first five serves she got three aces. Her powerful serve makes it hard for opponents to get a good set up.”
“This is the second time we played Sioux Valley this season.They once again proved to be tough,” Hoeke added. “It was good to take a game from them and show we can get to a higher level of play. But overall, we were slow and behind the faster pace Sioux Valley plays.”
Milbank 2 vs. Sisseton 0 Against Sisseton, Milbank got the “W” at 26-24 and 25-23. They put up a 92 percent serving average by hitting 45 of 49 with four aces. Emily Wollschlager led the team. She hit 10 of 10 with one ace. Averie Engebretson hit nine of nine with two aces. Addisyn Krause went seven of seven. Abby Pillatzki hit one of one. Hallie Schulte, seven of eight; Rachel Schulte six of seven with an ace; Riley Overby, three of four; and Laney Forrette two of three.On the attack, it was R. Schulte who led the way at 23 of 30 with 11 kills. Skyler Skoog was next at 18-22 with six kills. Claire Snaza, 10 of 15 with four kills; Overby, six of nine with two kills; Isabella Anderson, seven of eight with two kills; and Engebretson, six of seven with one kill. Engebretson also made 20 assists and Krause added two. R. Schulte, H. Schulte, and Wollschlager each had eight digs. Engebretson made seven. Krause had five; Pillatzki had four, and Jenna Dexter contributed three. Snaza had the only solo block.
Milbank 2 vs. Beresford 0 Milbank took the win at 25-11 and 25-19 against Beresford. They hit 92 percent serving with 45 of 49 with six aces. H. Schulte and Engebretson led the team. They were nine of nine with an ace apiece. Wollschlager went five of five. Overby, seven of eight with one ace; R. Schulte, five of six; and Krause, 10 of 12 with three aces.On the attack, it was R. Schulte in the lead again at 21 of 24 with 12 kills and Skoog right behind her at 20 of 20 with five kills. Overby was 12 of 15 with four kills. Snaza, nine of 11 with three kills; Anderson, four of five with two kills; and Engebretson, seven of seven.
Engebretson also recorded 22 assists and 16 digs. R. Schulte and H. Schulte each had seven digs. Wollschlager had six. Krause had four. Ella Sandvig and Pillatzki had three apiece.Engebretson, Snaza, and Overby each claimed two assisted blocks. R. Schulte and Skoog had one apiece.
MIlbank 0 vs. Mobridge-Pollock 2 The Lady Bulldogs took their first loss of the tournament to Mobridge-Pollock with set scores of 21-25 and 20-25 although they served at 93 percent. Milbank hit 39 of 42 with eight aces. R. Schulte went 13 of 13 with three aces. H. Schulte was seven of seven with an ace. Wollschlager and Engebretson both hit four of four — Engebretson with one ace. Overby was six of seven with two aces, and Krause five of seven with one ace.R. Schulte and Skoog again led the attack. R. Schulte at 22 of 27 with nine kills, and Skoog at 16 of 17 with five kills. Snaza was eight of nine with two kills. Overby eight of eight with one kill, and Casside Seezs three of four with one kill. Engebretson made 13 assists. Krause had three.
Engebretson led in digs at 11. Wollschlager followed her at seven. Krause added six, and H. Schulte contributed five. Snaza and Forrette each recorded one assisted block.
In the third- place match: Milbank 1 vs. Sioux Valley 2
Milbank took the loss in the third place match to Sioux Valley with set scores of 18-25, 25-17, and 14-25.
The Lady Bulldogs served at 90 percent. They hit 52 of 58 with five aces. H. Schulte came out on top at nine of nine with two aces. Wollschlager wasn’t far behind at eight of eight. R. Schulte went 13 of 14 with one ace. Engebretson, five of six with an ace; Krause 12 of 14 with an ace, and Overby, five of seven.
Rachel Schulte led the attack at 24 of 32 with nine kills. Snaza was next at 13 of 14 with six kills. Skoog went 14 of 18 with four kills. Overby was at 12 of 15 with a kill, Seezs, four five; and Engebretson, three of four.
Engebretson also had 14 assists.R. Schulte and H. Schulte led the team in digs. Rachel had 16 and Hallie had 11. Engebretson added eight, Pillatzki added six, and Krause had five.Snaza recorded the team’s only solo block. She also had one assisted block. R. Schulte had two assisted blocks. Engebretson and Overby each made one.
