Milbank’s varsity volleyball team traveled to Agency Village on Thursday, October 13, to take on the Tiospa Zina Lady Wambdi. MHS clinched the win at 3-2. Set scores were25-19, 24-26, 20-25, 25-14, and 15-5.

Nancy Hoeke, head coach for the Lady Bulldogs, said, “Addisyn Krause got off to a great start with her serving. We played six points without an error and were able to get an early six-point lead.” Krause ended the match at 11 of 12 serving with three aces. 

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs accumulated an 87 percentage serving average. They made 53 of 61 with 11 aces. Individually, Emily Wollschlager led Milbank at five of five. Casside Seezs was two of two with one ace.  Rylie Overby, 10 of 11 with four aces;

Averie Engebretson,10 of 11 with two aces; Hallie Schulte, nine of 10; Rachel Schulte six of nine with an ace; and Abby Pillatzki zero of one.On the attack, R. Schulte paved the way. She hit 27 of 37 with six kills. Engebretson hit 15 of 15 with four kills; Skyler Skoog, 14 of 16 with three kills; Claire Snaza, eight of 11 with three kills; Overby, 17 of 23 with three kills; and Seezs, nine of 16 with two kills.

Engebretson was also credited with 14 assists to lead Milbank. R. Schulte led in digs. She had 17. Hallie Schultie made 14, Emily Wollschlager added 11. Krause made five, and Engebretson contributed four.Snaza and Skoog each made two blocks. Overby and Engebretson had one apiece. All were assisted.

Coach Hoeke commented, “There was a stretch in the second set when we made six unforced errors in a row. Part of volleyball success is being patient, keeping the ball in play, and letting the opponent make the mistakes. So we will be working on that.”

JV Team Trounces Tiospa Zina
The JV volleyball team traveled to Tiospa Zina to take on the Lady Wambdi 2-0.  Milbank defeated them 25-10 and 25-7. Kelli Pillatzki, coach for the Lady Bulldogs, commented, “The girls did a good job of serving and a good job of communicating more.”

Kaitlyn Huber starred at serving. She hit 10 of 10 with five aces. Rylee Scoular was right behind her at nine of nine with two aces.
Abby Pillatzki was tops in setting. She went 14 of 14 with four assists. Scoular was  again right behind her at 14 of 14 with three assists.

Claire Snaza went six of seven hitting. She also added four kills and a block. Isabella Anderson was five of six hitting with three kills. Ella Sandvig had two kills on seven of eight hitting.

Sandvig also led the team in digs. She had seven. Siera Wenzl had five, and A. Pillatzki made four.

Coach Pillatzki added, “We will work on our hitters running routes and placing the ball effectively.”

Eighth Graders Outlast Tiospa Zina  The eighth-grade Lady Bulldogs’ volleyball team went on the road to Tiospa Zina on Thursday, October 14. Milbank won the match 2-1. Set scores were 25-16, 17-25, and 15-3. Becky Johnson coaches the team.

Milbank put up an 85 percent serving average. Kennedi Sayler led the team at 19 of 19 serving with 10 aces. She also contributed two assists.  Kayla Schweer hit eight of eight serves with two aces. Isabella Flores was five of five serving with two aces. Macyn Dunnihoo went six of seven serving with two aces. She also added one kill. 

Heyden Montag hit five of eight serves with three aces. Bailey Koepke went two of four serving with two aces. She also made three kills. Morgean French went one of three serving and contributed two kills.

Estelle Schweer made a kill and had three assists. Ella Pederson added a kill. Hallee Green and Yani Perez did not serve. Becky Johnson coaches the team

Seventh Graders Topple Tiospa Zina
The seventh-grade volleyball team played Tiospa Zina in Agency Village on Thursday, October 13. The Lady Bulldogs got the “W” at 2-1. 

According to Jen Schulte, coach of Milbank team, “We lost the first game 24 to 26, but won the next two games with scores of 25 to 21 and 15 to 9.”

Adison Pauli led the team with 13 of 17 serves, eight aces, and one kill. Lydia Gall served eight of 14 with seven aces. Taylor Anderson made six of nine serves and had two aces. Brooke Hendricks served five of 10 with three aces. McKenzie Mueller hit four of seven with one ace, and Brooklyn Twedt went three of seven with two aces.
