The Milbank varsity volleyball team defeated Webster 3-1 on Tuesday, October 25. Set scores were 24-26, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-28. 

Nancy Hoeke, head coach for MHS, said the girls got off to a slow start, but things  changed for the better in the second set. “We looked good. Back-row players (Hallie, Emily, Addisyn, Rachel, and Averie) covered the court with tough defense. That’s the beginning of good things happening. When the back row got the ball where we needed it, Averie, as a setter, had many good options. Our hitters (Rachel, Skyler, Claire, Rylie, Isabella, and Casside) used good play and good strategy to score points.”The Lady Bulldogs posted an 88 percent serving average with Hallie Schulte leading the way at 17 of 18 with one ace.  Rylie Overby went 15 of 17; Rachel Schulte, 13 of 15 with two aces; Addisyn Krause 20 of 23 with two aces; Emily Wollschlager, six of seven; and Averie Engebretson 15 of 18 with one ace.

R. Schulte headed up the attack. She made 16 kills on 49 of 61 hitting. Claire Snaza also hit double figures with 11 kills on 30 of 36 hitting. Skyler Skoog went 45-51 with nine kills;  Overby, 18-25 with nine kills; Isabella Anderson, seven of seven with two kills; Engebretson, 15 of 15 with two kills; and Casside Seezs six of nine with one kill.

Engebretson was credited with 38 assists and 19 digs. R. Schulte and H. Schulte led the team in digs. Rachel had 34 and Hallie had 31. Krause contributed 16, Wollschlager, 15; and Skoog, nine.Snaza made three blocks. Engebretson, had two, and Skoog added one. All were assisted.

JV Volleyball Team Wins Final Meet of the Season  The Milbank JV volleyball team traveled to Webster on Tuesday, October 25, to battle the Lady Bearcats in their last meet of the 2022 season. The Lady Bulldogs won the face-off 2-0. Set scores were 27-25 and 25-15. 

Isabella Anderson helped the team reach an 89 percent serving average. She hit six out of six with one ace. Hailey Zinter went eight of nine with one ace, and Siera Wenzl was three of four with one ace. 

Rylee Scoular led the way in setting. She recorded 63 of 66 with 21 assists.  Zinter went five of five with two assists.

Anderson posted 15 of 15 hitting with four kills. Claire Snaza also made four kills on nine of 11 hitting. Shaylee Schuchard claimed 19 of 19 and added two kills.

Wenzl was tops in digs. She made 19. Ella Sandvig also hit double figures with her 11 digs. Scoular contributed seven more.  Scoular, Zinter, and Snaza each recorded a block. 
Coach Kelli Pillatzki commented, “The girls did a good job of playing together and making a comeback.
