Justin Mathiason, assistant fire chief for the Milbank Fire Department, reports Milbank firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fire in Milbank at 4:43 p.m. on Sunday, November 13.
Mathiason says, “The engine compartment was fully engulfed when we arrived and the garage door windows were starting to melt. We dragged the vehicle away from the garage to prevent more damage.”
The 2017 Jeep Renegade was owned by Chris Schmidt. According to Mathiason, Schmidt had pulled the jeep into a driveway at 221 W Sixth Avenue and left the car. Shortly after, the vehicle started on fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
