Darreld Aden, age 89, of Milbank, SD, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Milbank Area Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home Chapel in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Rev. Thom Bowsher will officiate the service and interment will be at Milbank Cemetery.

Darreld Duane Aden was born on June 8, 1933, in Milbank, SD, to Dell and Hilka (Tjaden) Aden, the sixth of eight children. He grew up in Milbank, attending school, and graduating high school with the Class of 1951. Following high school, he was inducted into the United States Army in 1953 and served until 1955. While serving in the Army, Darreld was a paratrooper and was very proud of his accomplishments and serving his country.

Darreld was honorably discharged in October of 1955 with a National Defense Service Medal, a Parachutist Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal. He became the owner/operator of a gas station in Milbank from 1956 to 1988. After selling his business, Darreld went to work for Bituminous Paving in 1988 and worked there for many years. He also worked as the County Highway Superintendent for nine years and worked for Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Darreld was a member of the VFW and served as County Commissioner. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. In his leisure time, Darreld enjoyed woodworking, yardwork, and gardening. Family was important to him, and he loved spending as much time as he was able with his family, especially his grandkids.

Darreld is survived by his son, Douglas (Jennifer) Aden; daughters: Jolene (Jim) Cloos, Angela (Alan) Arnold, and Dawn (Scott) Bowers; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Meister; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma in 2009; wife, Avis in 2021; brothers: Rueben, Eldon, Glen, James, and Henry; and sister, Ruth.
