Student council members at St. Lawrence School in Milbank collected cans of non-perishable food to help put a lid on hunger.

The student council, led by advisor Susie Wendland and aided by all the staff and students at St. Lawrence, gathered the cans of food prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. In turn, the food was given to the Grant County Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP).

The students dubbed the drive “Can the Principal” and made it into a package deal. Any food donated could be piled in front of the office door to effectively sack any threat of “being sent to the principal’s office” for several days.
Wendland says, “The kids absolutely loved this drive!” They gave it a “tin out of tin.”
