Marlyn “Bud” Vangsness, age 88, of Correll, MN, passed away on December 4, 2022.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and continue on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Ortonville.

Marlyn Arvid Vangsness was born, along with his twin sister, Molly, at the family home in Ortonville, MN, on November 29, 1934. He was the son of Peter Melvin and Hazel Olive (Davis) Vangsness. He grew up in Ortonville and attended District 14 Elementary School. He graduated from Ortonville High School with the Class of 1952. Bud married Jeanne Elizabeth Green in 1960. They were blessed with four children: Michael, Gary, Mark, and Julie. He later married Dorothy Elaine Raaf Goetsch.

Bud was a life-long resident of the Ortonville area. He farmed many years and after his retirement he rented his land out to other farmers. He enjoyed many summers spent with his grandchildren. He loved to attend auctions and collected Indian artifacts. He enjoyed hunting. Most importantly, Bud loved spending time with his family and his good friend, Roger Hynek.

Bud Vangsness is survived by his wife, Dorothy Vangsness of Milbank, SD; his children: Mike Vangsness (Amber Joy) of Buffalo, MN; Gary (Marcia) Vangsness of Odessa, MN; Mark (Tina) Vangsness of Morton, MN; and Julie Vangsness of St. Cloud, MN; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Sandra Goetsch (Delaine) of Prior Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Margaret Fishbeck of Minneapolis, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Hazel; siblings: Don (Lucille) Vangsness, Herman Jr. (Helen) Vangsness, Molly (Willie) Sherod, and Helen (Harvey) Schake; brother-in-law, Glenn Fishbeck; as well as several nieces and nephews.
