The Bulldogs went on the road to Britton-Hecla on Monday, January 9, in a game that was rescheduled due to weather. Milbank pulled off a hat trick when the varsity team defeated the Braves 67-33, the JV won at 60-16, and the C team was victorious at 45-12. Logan Diede serves as the head coach for the Bulldogs.

Varsity Game – Milbank 67 vs. Britton-Hecla 33

The varsity Bulldogs dominated in each quarter of play and more than doubled Britton-Hecla’s score to roll to an easy victory at 67-33. Three Bulldogs reached double figures and Joe Schulte and Jaxson Wildung each notched a double-double. Schulte racked up 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Wildung netted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Garrett Mertens put up 14 points and commandeered three rebounds. He also knocked in three three-point buckets. 

Aiden Ludvigson added eight points to the offense’s stockpile. Tice Mursu contributed four, and Max Lightfield and Eli Johnson put up three apiece. Ludvigson was perfect from beyond the arc at two of two. Schulte was also hot from the three-point line. He hit two of three. Johnson connected on his one attempt.

Graham Lightfield, Mertens, and Mursu helped to shore up the defense. They each controlled three rebounds. Johnson, Ludvigson, and Tanner Hallquist snared two apiece.

The Bulldogs were given 13 opportunities at the charity stripe; they bingoed on eight for 61.5 percent. They offered the Braves 18 chances at the free throw line, and the Braves took advantage of 10 for nearly 56 percent.
The Bulldogs’ defense pressured the Braves into missing 29 of their 39 shot attempts. They finished at 26 percent. They also floundered from long range and made just three of 14 shots from beyond the arc. Their top shooters included: Gage Storely with eight points and Bo Dell Davidson and Ty Fagerland with six points apiece. Ashton Mills added five.

JV Game – Milbank 60 vs. Britton-Hecla 16

The Bulldogs JV team blew out the Braves. Milbank scored 60 points to Britton-Hecla’s 16. Emmett Hanson made 15 points, Bryan Meyer made 14, and Braylen Bowsher made 10 to lead the way. Ryan Keeton also tacked up eight points. Josh Pederson dropped in four. Mason Meister, Charlie Peery, and Este Abrego-Gonzalez added three apiece.

Hanson took possession of seven of the Dawgs’ rebounds. Ryan Keeton took charge of three. Meister, Meyer, and Abrego-Gonzalez nabbed two.

The Bulldogs shot 47 percent from the floor, including 37 percent from three-point range. The Braves  only mustered up a 25 percent percent shooting average, including eight percent from beyond the arc. Britton-Hecla hit 50 percent from the free throw line, but that couldn’t compete with Milbank. The Bulldogs sank nearly 78 percent by knocking down seven of their nine attempts.

C Team Game Milbank 45 vs. Britton-Hecla 12

The Bulldogs’ C team shut down the Braves of Britton-Hecla with a score of 45-12.  Layten Osowski was  the Dawgs’ leading rebounder. He took possession of seven. Garrett Weber, Ethan Owen, and Jesu Padilla-Ramirez each handled three. Braylen Bowsher, Jack Howard, and Este Abrego-Gonzalez grabbed two apiece.

Osowski was also the top scorer for Milbank. He piled up 11 points  Bowsher made eight .Ryan Keeton had seven, and Abrego-Gonzalez contributed six. Howard dropped in four. Charlie Peery had three. Weber, Owen, and Howie Zemlicka added two points apiece. Keeton and Peery each connected for a three-pointer.

The Bulldogs shot 42 percent as a team. They nailed over 71 percent from the charity stripe. The Braves finished with an 18 percent shooting average. They hit 25 percent from the line.
