MHS sent 28 students to Watertown on Friday, January 13, to audition for South Dakota’s 2023 All-State Band. The band is the top high school band in the state.  According to Susan Karels, director of the Milbank School District’s 6-12 bands, the results will be announced by February 3. 
The 2023 concert will be held at Sioux Falls O’Gorman High School on March 25.  

Auditioning for the all-state band also qualifies the MHS students for the 2023 North Area Honor Band. The honor band concert is traditionally conducted in December in Aberdeen. 
 

MHS musicians who auditioned included: Front Row: Anna Neugebauer (freshman trumpet), Gemma Street (sophomore trumpet), Katie Kruger (sophomore alto sax), Ruth Luis Gomez (sophomore flute), Addie Farrell (senior clarinet), Rachel Schulte (junior clarinet), and Laney Forrette (senior clarinet).

Second Row: Evy Liebe (freshman percussion), Kalli Grong (freshman flute), Maurina Street (senior alto sax), Emily Jo Wollschlager (senior trumpet), Ellie Neugebauer (senior clarinet), Sophia Whitlow (junior clarinet), Brooke Mumbauer (junior flute), and Isabella Vogel (junior flute).
Third Row: Shane Spiering (sophomore bari sax), Alex DeLaRosa (sophomore bass clarinet), Merik Junker (senior percussion), Luis Berrones (senior bass clarinet), Carter Phinney (senior trumpet), Connor Wiik (junior trumpet), Keara VanHoorn (senior trombone).
Fourth Row: Hope Karels (junior bass clarinet), Aubrey Fraasch (junior alto sax), Yanderyn Olivares Zuniga (freshman alto sax), Krista Nies (freshman trombone), Camryn Sovell (freshman trumpet), and Joe Schulte (junior euphonium).
