Milbank took the loss in their game 36-64 against Groton on Thursday, January 19, at the Milbank Armory. Jaxson Wildung posted 16 points and nine rebounds.

Joe Schulte tallied nine points and five rebounds. Yohanna Ajwanga recorded four points and four rebounds. Graham Lightfield, Garrett Mertens, and Tice Mursu each added two points. Emmett Hanson made a free throw. 

Mertens grabbed two rebounds. Lightfield, Hanson, Mursu, Will Snaza, Jack Howard, and Aiden Ludvigson pulled down one rebound apiece.

The Bulldogs finished with a 38 percent scoring average and landed eight of their 15 free throws for 54 percent. The Tigers shot 53 percent from the floor and 47 percent from the line.

What’s next for the Bulldogs?  Milbank hosts a doubleheader with Deuel on Thursday, January 26. Note: Third-grade boys scrimmage during varsity boys’ halftime and third-grade girls scrimmage during varsity girls’ halftime. 

JV Team

Milbank 42 vs. Groton 41

It was nip and tuck, but Milbank’s JV team sewed up the game, 42-41, against Groton on Thursday, January 19 on the Bulldogs’ home court.

Emmett Hanson scored a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Ryan Keeton made nine points and pulled down two rebounds. Mason Meister chalked up six points and three rebounds. Bryan Meyer had five points and a rebound. 

Josh Pederson and Braylen Bowsher each put in three points. Pederson had three rebounds and Meyer had one. Este Abrego-Gonzalez chipped in three rebounds. Jack Howard donated two.

The Bulldogs shot 33 percent overall and 22 percent from three-point range. They nailed 12 of their 20 free shots for 60 percent.

Groton’s Ryder Johnson piled up 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Tigers. Logan Ringgenberg was next at seven points and two rebounds. Groton shot 40 percent from the floor, including 10 percent from long range. They were four of nine from the free throw line for 44 percent.

What’s next for Milbank’s JV team?  The  Bulldogs’ JV and C-team travel to Florence-Henry, January 20.

C Team:Milbank 11 vs. Groton 22

Milbank’s C team hung with their opponent in the first half of their game against Groton on Thursday, January 19, but they ran out of gas in the second. The Tigers took the win at 22-11.

Este Gonzalez-Abrego led the Bulldogs with four points and six rebounds. Ryan Keeton followed with three points and three rebounds. Ethan Owen dropped in two points and took down three rebounds. Layten Osowski made two points and  one rebound. Jack Howard claimed three rebounds. Charlie Peery had two. Howie Zemlicka also chipped in a rebound for the defense.

Gage Sippel was the leading scorer for Groton with 10 points. He tacked on eight rebounds. Logan Warrington made five points and three rebounds.

What’s next for Milbank’s C team?  The  Bulldogs’ JV and C-team travel to Florence-Henry, January 20.
