Bulldog Wrestlers Crowned Champions at River City Rumble

Powered by eight wrestlers who placed — three of them as individual champions — the Bulldog wrestlers brought home the team title from the River City Rumble in Chamberlain on Saturday, January 21.

Milbank finished with 153 points. Chamberlain was second with 150 points. Huron was the next closest contender with 133 points. Sioux Falls O’ Gorman rounded out the top four at 127.5 points.

For the Bulldogs, Owen Fischer, Barrett Schneck, and Jesse Schneck earned first-place honors. Brayden Christensen and Landon Novy each captured second-place wins. Jacob Johnson, Reese Rabe, and Dillen Sheeley were all fourth-place winners.

At 106 pounds, Owen Fischer (19-5) placed 1st and scored 26.0 team points. At 132 pounds, Jacob Johnson (7-12) placed 4th and scored 14.0 team points. At 145 pounds, Brayden Christensen (10-6) placed 2nd and scored 18.0 team points. At 160 pounds, Reese Rabe (4-10) placed 4th and scored 9.0 team points. 170 pounds, Barrett Schneck (20-0) placed 1st and scored 24.0 team points. At 195 pounds, Jesse Schneck (14-6) placed 1st and scored 24.0 team points. At 220 pounds, Dillen Sheeley (4-8) placed 4th and scored 12.0 team points. At Heavyweight, Landon Novy (12-8) placed 2nd and scored 20.0 team points.

Josh Schmeichel, head coach for MHS, said, “We knew we had a chance to be one of the five top teams, but didn’t think we would be able to go out and win it. Throughout the day, watching the team points, we kept creeping up in the standings. During the final round, we only scored 10 points, but with our lead and those points, it was enough to keep Chamberlain from catching us. The boys were thrilled to take home a team title and we are looking forward to what comes next for the Bulldogs!”
