The Bulldogs varsity basketball team racked up their fourth win in a row when they defeated Tri-Valley (Colton) 67-44 at the Milbank Armory on Saturday, February 11. Milbank had three players in double figures — Garrett Mertens with 25, Joe Schulte with 17, and Jaxson Wildung with 10.
Mertens downed eight of his 14 shots, including four 3-pointers. He cleaned up at the free-throw line by sinking five of five. Schulte and Wildung each added nine rebounds and two steals to their totals. Schulte went five of six at the charity stripe, and Wildung was six of eight.

The trio received a lot of help from Yohana Ajwanga, who scored six points and five rebounds, and Aiden Ludvigson, who also scored six points. Tice Mursu added two points. a rebound, and a steal. Justus Osborn knocked down a free shot and posted two rebounds. Graham Lightfield contributed two rebounds. Emmett Hanson grabbed a steal.

The Bulldogs  converted 47 percent of their shots into points, including one of three from beyond the arc. They dropped in 17 of their 21 free-throw attempts for 81 percent.

Noah Hanes led the Mustangs with 15 points and four rebounds. Logan Ellison followed with eight points and three rebounds. Tristan Bunde added seven points and two rebounds.

The Mustangs made 35 percent of their shots from the floor. — none from 3-point range. They rolled in 18 of their 30 free-throw attempts for 60 percent. 


JV Game—–Milbank 41 vs. Tri-Valley 35
Milbank’s JV team earned another victory when they defeated Tri-Valley 41-35 on Saturday, February 11 at the Milbank Armory. Ryan Keeton led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Emmett Hanson followed with 10 points and six rebounds. Mason Meister fired in seven points and hauled down five rebounds.

Braylen Bowsher and Bryan Meyer each added four points. Jack Howard and Sebastian Hooth chalked up two points. Hooth also snagged six rebounds and Howard grabbed two. Este Abrego-Gonzalez got three rebounds.  Josh Pederson, Meyer, and Howie Zemlicks contributed one rebound apiece.

The Bulldogs hit 39 percent of their shots from the floor, including 23 percent of their 3-pointers. Milbank downed six of 11 or 54.5 percent of their free throws.

Landon Hughes led Tri-Valley with 11 points and seven rebounds. Tristen Bunde followed with eight points and two rebounds. Carson Sanders was next with seven points and two rebounds.

The Mustangs hit 41 percent of their shots. They made 20 percent from long range. They also claimed 50 percent of their free throws by putting in seven of 14.


C-Team Game—Milbank 37 vs. Tri-Valley 17 The Milbank C team trounced Tri-Valley with a score of 37-17 on Saturday, February 11 at home. Layten Osowski led the Bulldogs with eight points. Braylen Bowsher followed with seven points. Este Abrego-Gonzalez made six. Abrego-Gonzalez was Milbank’s top rebounder. He took down seven.

The Bulldogs hit 34 percent of their shots and the Mustangs made 21 percent. Mason Hemme made nine points to lead Tri-Valley’s scoring. Milbank landed 10 of 22 of their free-throw attempts for 45.5 percent. Tri-Valley hit only one of four for 25 percent.
