The Bulldogs varsity basketball team collected their fifth win in a row when they defeated Estelline-Hendricks 55-42 on Monday, February 13, in Estelline. Jaxson Wildung was MIlbank’s top scorer. He earned a double-double with 18 points. and 13 rebounds. Wildung also dropped in eight of his 11 free-throw attempts.

The teams were tied at 25 at the half, but Milbank put up a much stronger front in the second. They scored 15 points in both the third and fourth quarters and kept their fouls to just seven the entire game. The Bulldogs gave Estelline only two chances at the charity stripe, and the Redhawks hit only one. Milbank stood at the line to shoot 20 free-throws and nailed 15.

Bulldogs Joe Schulte and Justus Osborn drove in 10 points apiece. Schulte added five rebounds and three steals. Osborn hauled down one rebound. Garrett Mertens and Graham Lightfield each scored six points. Lightfield took down two rebounds and Mertens made a block, yanked one rebound, and grabbed a steal. Yohana Ajwanga posted five points, three rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.

The Bulldogs went 18 of 38 from the floor for 47 percent. They were 31 percent from long range. 

Joe McAninch was the leading scorer for the Redhawks. He popped in 18 points and brought down two rebounds. Wyat James followed with 11 points and three rebounds.

Estelline-Hendricks hit 17 of their 46 shot attempts for 37 percent, including seven of 17 from beyond the arc for 41 percent.

What’s next? The Bulldogs meet Waverly-South Shore on February 14.

JV Game—-Milbank 45 vs. Estelline 28 The Bulldogs JV team bagged another victory when they took down Estelline-Hendricks on Monday, February 13, on the road. Emmett Hanson led Milbank with 14 points and seven rebounds. He also made a block. Braylen Bowsher followed with six points and six rebounds. Ryan Keeton and Bryan Meyer each put in five points. 

Mason Meister added four points and three rebounds. Jack Howard had three points and two rebounds. Graham Lightfield, Josh Pederson, Este Abrego-Gonzalez, and Sebastian Hooth scored two points apiece.  Abrego-Gonzalez hauled down four rebounds; Hooth claimed two. Pederson and Lightfield each snagged one rebound.

The Bulldogs made good on 49 percent of their shots from the floor, including 43 percent of their 3-point shots. They hit two of four or 50 percent of their free throws.

The Redhawks connected on 21 percent of their shots, including 19 percent from long range. They downed six of their eight free throws for 75 percent.

What’s next? The Bulldogs meet Waverly-South Shore on February 14.
