Susan Fay Monnens, age 75, of South Shore, SD, passed away on February 21, 2023.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore. Rev. Ken Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Twin Brooks Cemetery.

Fay was born on January 26, 1948, in Grant County, SD. She was the daughter of Morris and Desley (Christman) Strain. She attended grade school at a country school in Grant County, SD, and graduated from Corona High School. She continued her education in Aberdeen, SD, in business school.

Fay was united in marriage on January 4, 1969, with Charles Johanson. Together, they had two children: Dawn (Johanson) Christoffersen and Scott Johanson.

Fay spent many of her years on the family farm raising dairy cattle and horses (her favorite). She also worked for her friend, Ronald “Gunslinger” Giessinger, as a bar manager/tender at Gunslinger’s Bar in Twin Brooks.

She married Carl Monnens on October 30, 1987.

All her life, Fay enjoyed raising animals, ranging from cattle, horses, donkeys, geese, dogs, and cats. She also worked at United Hardware for many years as well as worked at home as a tax preparer for many friends and family members.

Susan Fay Monnens is survived by her children: Dawn Christoffersen of Watertown, SD; and Scott Johanson of South Shore, SD; brother, Art (Verla) Strain and son, Aaron; sister, Sue Ann (Allen) Westermeyer, and their children: Wanda Chitwood, A.J. Westermeyer and Jesse Westermeyer; two step-grandchildren: Trevor Corbin and Alex Karst; and her close friends: Ronald
“Gunslinger” Giessinger, Corly Hoftiezer, and Billy Brus.
