Eunice Elaine (Herrmann) Sprung was born on July 20, 1941, in Luverne, MN, to Ralph and Lucille (Loeffler) Herrmann. Tragically, when she was a year old, Eunice’s father died in an electrocution accident on a turkey ranch. Her mother moved them into town to be closer to her job as a waitress at a small café. As a young child, Eunice’s mother remarried and the family moved to Rushmore, MN, and shortly after, she gained a little sister, Faye Roberta.

Not far from their home, Eunice attended country school until eighth grade when the school closed. The family moved to Jasper, MN, and Eunice finished high school and graduated with the Class of 1959. Following high school, she moved to Minneapolis where she worked as a nanny and attended Minneapolis Business School. Eunice finished her schooling and went to work at Honeywell and worked as a typist.

In June of 1962, Eunice agreed to go on a blind date set up by some good friends of hers from Ortonville, MN. Gene Arnold Sprung didn’t tick all of her boxes she was looking for in a mate, but she fell in love with him. Gene was with the Guards in Colorado so the two carried on a long-distance relationship in writing letters and having short phone calls. On New Year’s Day of 1963, Gene popped the question and the two were married on September 7, 1963, at the Methodist Church in Milbank, SD, and they headed off on their honeymoon of touring northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Gene and Eunice decided to build a home on the farm and a couple of years later, they were blessed with their son, Timothy, in 1965. Eunice worked at keeping their home and raising their son while Gene worked hard on the farm. In 1969, they welcomed another son, Todd. Then came the blessing in the form of grandchildren!

Throughout Eunice’s struggles with her health, her faith held steadfast. She was a good, God-fearing woman and thanked the Lord every day for the blessings he bestowed upon her and her family.

Eunice was an avid seamstress, wonderful cook, and great mother and grandmother. She loved the joys of country living and the opportunity to spend time with her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Gene; sons: Timothy Sprung of Florence, SD; and Todd (Dianna) Sprung of Corona, SD; six grandchildren: Tyhe (Kyle) Gerlach, Damonn (Alex) Mischke, Logan Crown, Zach Crown, Wyat Sprung, and Mykcel Sprung; two great-grandchildren: Kailynn Gerlach and Taysom Gerlach; sister, Faye Sears of San Jose, CA; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ralph and Lucille.
