Betty Jean (Myers) Husby was born on April 16, 1945, in Morris, MN, to Clarence and Artina (Knecht) Myers. She grew up on a farm near Chokio, MN, and attended school in Chokio. Betty graduated from Chokio High School with the Class of 1963.
Following high school, Betty worked as a Teacher’s Aide at the Chokio school and in the office during the summer. She also helped her mother with gardening, canning, and farm work.
During Chokio Dairy Days, Betty met Dale Sperr and the two were united in marriage on November 16, 1968, at the Chokio Methodist Church. He was her true loved and she cherished his kindness. Together, Betty and Dale were blessed with two sons: Terry and Troy.
In 1972, Dale passed away from cancer. Betty moved her family into town and she worked in the kitchen at both the Chokio school and the Alberta school and raised her boys. After the boys were in school, Betty worked as a Teacher’s Aide as she so loved her work with the students. She worked odd jobs at the school in the summer months. When her boys were in high school, Betty moved to Graceville, MN. She then worked at the hardware store, grocery store, and mini mart. Betty also worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Grace Home for a few years. In August of 2010, Betty retired due to health issues.
Enjoying crafts and gardening, Betty was a member of Graceville Homemakers Group. She was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where she volunteered with the Ladies’ Aide and taught Sunday School. Betty enjoyed plants, crocheting, was an avid seamstress, and wonderful baker. She especially enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren. Betty would teach them to cook and bake; she would also play many games and card games with them. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and especially loved spending time with her sister.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her sons: Terry (Tammy) Sperr of Glyndon, MN; and Troy (Judy) Sperr of Hawley, MN; five grandchildren: Alexis, Dawson, Abby, Nathan, and Ryan; sister, Kathy (Glenn) Gardner of Yellville, AR; and niece, Christina.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Dale Sperr.
