The  2023 South Dakota Special Olympics Northeast Spring Track and Field Day hosted by Milbank has set a new date. The event will now be held on Friday, May 5.

An organizational meeting for volunteers is set for April 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school lunchroom. Anyone who would like to volunteer and everyone who has already signed up to help is invited.

Volunteers and fans can plan on a full day of track and field games on May 5. Opening ceremonies  begin at 8:30 a.m. at A.B. Campbell Stadium and the day will wrap up around 4 p.m. The meet is expected to bring over 200 athletes and their families to Milbank from Aberdeen, Watertown, and Webster, and as far away as Pierre and Redfield.

According to Abby Trapp and Peggy Greiner, coaches and coordinators of the event, volunteers are still needed to measure, retrieve shot put balls, run timers, run ribbon writers, guide athletes to where they need to go, and act as recorders, starters, and servers of food. If you would like to volunteer, but are unable to attend the volunteer meeting, call 605.432.5579.
