Inez Unzicker

Inez D. Unzicker, age 98, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Loren Diekman will officiate.

Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 11-1.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown. A luncheon will be held at the chapel after the burial ceremony. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Inez’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Rick Russman, Kevin Russman, Tim Russman, Tony Jacobson, and Brent Mortenson.

Inez was born on August 26, 1924, in Corona, SD, to William and Jennie (Groeneweg) Johnson. She was one of three children.

On November 22, 1941, Inez married Paul Unzicker at Wibaux, Montana. To this union, 5 children were born. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Milbank area as well as the Nassau area until 1975, when they retired from farming and moved to Watertown. While tending to her family, Inez also spent much time helping her husband, Paul, in the fields and tending to her large gardens on the farm. After moving to Watertown, Inez was employed at Midtex until their closing and then worked cleaning various offices, hotel rooms and Zesto.

She loved growing tomatoes and having a garden, making and selling wooden lawn ornaments, embroidering, making beautiful photo album covers as well as other crafts. Her biggest love was her family of whom she was so very proud and never missed the opportunity to point them out. Inez and her husband also loved camping and spending winter vacations in Florida with their motor home. After her husband Paul passed away, she spent time most years for 4-6 weeks with her daughter and family in Florida. She loved traveling when she could. One of the highlights was going to the Bahamas. In 2017 at the age of 93 she still traveled to Florida and spent time at a VRBO, which her and her four daughters had rented right on the Clearwater beach in FL.

Inez will be greatly missed by her four daughters: Eileen Russman (Dean Selchert) South Shore, SD, Barbara Spahr (Michael ) Sarasota, FL, Cindi Jacobson (Scooter), Watertown, SD and Shirley Jurgens (Mike Ching), Watertown, SD; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents William and Jennie, one son Dennis and daughter-in-law Lois, sisters Elsie Roos and Lillian June, and one infant grandson.
