David Larsen, age 67, of Stockholm, SD, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at his family farm where he was raised and where his parents farmed.

Memorial services for David are currently pending.

David Wayne Larsen was born on October 30, 1955, in Ortonville, MN, to Anton and Helga (Edeen) Larsen. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in South Shore, SD, graduating with the Class of 1973.

Following graduation, David remained on his childhood farm and continued to farm the land and raised cattle. While farming, he also worked at the Grant County courthouse for 22 years until his retirement.

On July 14, 1990, David was united in marriage with Cyndy (Morris) Buyert at Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, SD. Together, they raised four children: Angela, Amanda, Ashley, and Sean.

The family continued to farm, going from dairy cattle, to beef cattle, and farming the land. When David started working at the courthouse, he rented out some of the land to manage the workload.

David enjoyed visiting and could talk to anyone and everyone. He enjoyed his new friends at the courthouse along with their many other friends and neighbors. Someone once asked Cyndy how they knew so many people and had so many friends. She responded, “First off, you have to be really genuinely nice and to have friends, you have to be one.” David also enjoyed having coffee with the guys in the morning, shaking dice, and having fun. He also enjoyed all forms of sports, both playing sports in high school and going to and watching sports: always knowing all the players, trades, injuries, and odds. David liked to hunt and fish usually catching the biggest fish, bringing home the most birds, and the BIG rack off a buck. He was excited to go on a buffalo hunt in December of 2022 and had the bull’s head mounted and the hide done. David also loved the quality time he got to spend with friends and family during his hunting and fishing excursions.

David was well-read and was always thinking about the future. Sometimes, he carried the weight of the world on his shoulders but never once complained and always wore a smile. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Cyndy, his family, neighbors, and friends.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his wife of many years, Cyndy of Stockholm, SD; their children: Angela (Dan) Johnson of Oronoco, MN; Amanda (Dan) Phillips of Watertown, SD; Ashley (Casey) Schmidt of Aberdeen, SD; and Sean Larsen of Brookings, SD; their grandchildren he cherished so much: Cloey, Oliver, and Evelyn; his siblings: Diane (Butch) Maday of Sherburn, MN; Darlene (Larry) Bailly of Black Hawk, SD; Donald (Erma) Larsen of Stockholm, SD; Darrell Larsen of Blaine, MN; and Delores Ries of Stockholm, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ricky Larsen.
