The first food giveaway of 2023 sponsored by the Grant County Christian Service Council (GCCSC) and offered in cooperation with Feeding South Dakota, is set for Wednesday, May 10, from 4-5 p.m. Brenda Maass, of GCCSC and coordinator for Milbank’s event, says, “The giveaway will again be held in the Living Word Lutheran Church parking lot on Highway 15 in north Milbank. Participants are reminded that the church will be locked and no restrooms will be available during the giveaway.”
“This will again be a drive-thru event with the food pre-boxed and provided by Feeding South Dakota,” Maass says. “Because of its close proximity to Highway 15, please arrive no earlier than 2:30 p.m. as the volunteers giving parking instructions don’t arrive until then. We do not want to create hazards on the highway.” Enter the parking lot as indicated and wait for traffic directions. Open your trunk or back lift gate once you are in line.
Volunteers will place the boxes in your vehicle. It is important to have the space ready in your vehicle for the box so traffic flow will not be disrupted. Maass also reminds participants, “To keep the line moving as quickly as possible, we prefer you pick up food for only your family. However, we understand sometimes people are willing to pick up food for others. Please note there is a two-family limit per vehicle. You will also need to provide your name and the name of the other family when you get in the line.” According to Maass, Feeding South Dakota now requires the giveaway to collect household information from each family. Recipients will be asked how many people in the family are age 17 and under, 18-59, and 60 and over.” “If you are unable to attend the giveaway, please make arrangements for someone else to pick up your food. We are unable to make deliveries after the event.” Interested in volunteering? Contact Brenda Maass at 605.880.7176.
