Gail Strobl, age 79, of Twin Brooks, SD, passed away on May 5, 2023, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Reverend David Tonn will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be at Milbank City Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Matt Strobl, Scott Torness, James Glomstad, Bill St. Martin, Mike McKernan, Tony Gross, and Jon Palin. Honorary bearers will be Gail’s grandchildren.
Gail Kay (Torness) Strobl was born on May 25, 1943, in Milbank, SD. She was the daughter of Oscar and Anne (Skogsberg) Torness. Gail grew up in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1961. On January 31, 1970, she was united in marriage with Michael Strobl. She was blessed with six children: Dawn, Beth, Jeff, Eric, Michelle, and Laurel. She worked for her parents for many years at Torness Furniture. She also worked on the farm alongside her husband, Mike.
Gail was active in 4-H and loved dogs and horses. Her creative side enjoyed crafting, needle felting, knitting, ceramics, and making pheasant hat bands. She was a lifelong member of American Lutheran Church. Gail adored her family and she always put her children and grandchildren first. Family was so important to her, and she was very proud of her Torness family heritage. Thanks to the internet and social media, she was able to reconnect with family and friends. She enjoyed doing yardwork and was proud of her landscaping around the farm site.
Gail is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mike Strobl of Twin Brooks, SD; children: Dawn Gross of South Shore, SD; Beth (Mark) St. Martin of Milbank, SD; Jeff Strobl of Ramsey, MN; Eric (Jessica) Strobl of Dell Rapids, SD; Michelle (Gary) Reil of Sioux Falls, SD; and Laurel Strobl of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Gene (Betty) Torness of Big Stone City, SD; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Ryon Gross; grandsons: Ryan Koch and Josh Gross; and her in-laws: Walter and Ida Strobl.
