The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs track and field teams traveled to the Sisseton Twilight meet on May 5. Isaac Graham and Sam Rick each earned first-place wins for Milbank.
Eric Townsend, head coach for Milbank, said it was part of a big week when the teams’ schedule sported four meets — Valley Queen Cheese, Sisseton Twilight, Howard Wood Relays, and the Webster Quad. (Find results for all four events here on The Valley Express.)
At the Sisseton TwiLight meet, a number of season’s best were attained by our athletes.,” Townsend said. “The girls team earned 15 season bests and the boys team earned 19 season bests. This meet was another opportunity to compete against a number of NEC and region schools. Both teams did very well.”
Highlights for the boys: Isaac Graham took first place in the 3200-meter run with his time of 11:36.5. Sam Rick took first place in the pole vault competition with his 11′ 3″ vault. Max Lightfield took second in the 110-meter hurdles. Emmett Hanson was third. Lightfield also took second in the 300-meter hurdles. Milbank’s Medley Relay team took second place. Braylen Bowsher, Rick, Grant Van Peursum, and Liam Heller each ran a leg.
Highlights for the girls: Maggie Kruger earned second in the pole vault competition. She landed a vault of 8′ 6″. Rylee Scoular got fourth place at 8′ 0″. Nadia Thue took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. In the javelin competition – a new event for Milbank –Emily Wollschlager took home eighth place.
What’s next for Milbank? The Northeast Conference meet for the pole vault division takes place in Webster on Wednesday, May 10. The Northeast Conference meet for all other events takes place on Thursday, May 11 in Groton. That meet starts at 11 am.
Townsend said, “Both teams (MHS boys and girls) are in a great position to make a run for another Northeast Conference team championship. I hope we have our best meet of the season and bring another championship back to Milbank.”
