Connie Voeltz

Connie Voeltz, age 79, of Big Stone City, SD, passed away on May 20, 2023, at Avantara – Milbank.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD. Pastor Kristy Liebe will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Big Stone City. Visitation will be held at the church, one hour prior to the service. The organist will be Sheila Dailie.

Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Ryan Adolphson, Brittany Adolphson, Sydney Morton, Whitney Morton, Preston Morton, William Voeltz, Grace Voeltz, and goddaughter, Stacie Boll.

Connie Jeanne (Nelson) Voeltz was born on August 20, 1943, at Peabody Hospital in Webster, SD. She was the daughter of LeRoy and Eldora (Buck) Nelson and the sister of two younger brothers: Gerald and Lynn. Connie grew up on the family farm in Roberts County, southeast of Wilmot, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Wilmot Lutheran Church. She attended public school in Wilmot and graduated from Wilmot High School with the Class of 1962.

At thirteen, her parents bought her an accordion, and she played on the radio station KWAT in Watertown, SD. Her parents were so proud of that. She also played the piano and absolutely loved music, especially the music of Charley Pride.

Connie was united in marriage to William R. Voeltz on June 8, 1963, at Wilmot Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children: Debra, Dawn, and William. She was a faithful member of Tabor United Methodist Church.

Connie was a dedicated employee of JC Penney, Co. in Ortonville, working from 1973 until 1993. She loved her job and especially enjoyed the customers who always made her happy! Connie had a warm and inviting smile, she loved to visit and genuinely cared about others. She was a devoted wife and mother. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her dear little dog, Snookie.

Connie owned a blue 1968 Dodge Coronet. She referred to her car as her “baby” and loved to drive it! She enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Branson, MO. Connie had a positive and joyful personality. She could be heard whistling while she cooked or did chores. Making sure her hair and makeup were just right, was important to her. Having worked in retail, Connie was an excellent shopper and was always eager for a shopping trip.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Deb (Mark) Adolphson of Edina, MN; Dawn (Larry) Morton of Waconia, MN; and William Voeltz of Milbank, SD; seven grandchildren: Ryan Adolphson, Brittany Adolphson, Sydney Morton, Whitney Morton, Preston Morton, William Voeltz, and Grace Voeltz; two great-grandchildren: Callie Adolphson, and Benjamin Adolphson; brother, Lynn Nelson of Fairmount, ND; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents: LeRoy and Eldora; husband, William; brother, Gerald Nelson; and her sweet dog, Snookie.
