Steven Hynnek, age 64, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on May 31, 2023, at Providence Place in Minneapolis, MN, after battling cancer for many years. He joins his dad on their last journey together.
Steve and his father, Roger, will have a joint funeral service on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
Steven James Hynnek was born in Ortonville, MN, on June 7, 1958, to Roger and Carol (Jurgens) Hynnek. He was raised in Ortonville and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1976. He was baptized, received first communion, and was confirmed at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville.
After high school, Steve attended Willmar Community College then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1977. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy as an aerographer. He served four years traveling the Mediterranean Sea to various countries including Egypt and Spain. Following his service to the United States, Steve worked as a security officer in the Twin Cities area.
Steve enjoyed fishing, golfing, following Minnesota sports teams, and listening to classic rock music. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved his nieces and nephews and would tease them endlessly. When they were little, they responded by forever stealing his baseball cap. He always made a stink about it, but he never failed to wear a cap around them.
Steve is survived by his mother, Carol Hynnek of Ortonville, MN; sisters: Patty (Jim) Trump of Johnstown, CO; and Leslie Bundy of Oregon, WI; brothers: Mike (Lori) Hynnek of Clinton, MN; and Jeff (Natasha) Hynnek of Ortonville, MN; nieces and nephews: Brianna Sosa (Justin Peterson), Nicholas (Jamie) Sosa, Caitlin (Nathan) Barnard, Collin Bundy, Sydney Hynnek, Lexi Hynnek, and Isaac Hynnek; great-nephews: Ethan Sosa and Gavin Sosa; and lifelong friends, Don Becker and Dave Sandberg.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Hynnek.
