Milbank’s Post 9 Legion baseball team hosted the Arnold Larsen Tournament at Pribyl Park during the weekend of June 2-4.  Milbank defeated Claremont 7-0 and lost to Groton 20-12 in pool play. They fell to Volga 14-0 in their placement matchup on Sunday.

Milbank played the late game on Friday evening against Claremont. Justus Osborn’s strong pitching performance propelled them to victory in their first game of the tourney. In their second game, Milbank took on Groton. Milbank jumped on Groton right out of the gates. They scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take the score to 4-1. Groton battled back.
In the top of the seventh, Milbank held a 10-6 lead. Groton rallied to put four runs across, tie things up at 10, and send the game into extra innings by holding Milbank scoreless in the bottom half. 

In the top of the 8th, Groton’s offense took off. They added 10 runs to give them a 20-10 lead. They held on to claim the win at 20-12.

Milbank took on Volga in the third-place game. Volga had defeated Hamlin and lost to Redfield in pool play. Volga’s pitcher offered a strong performance on the mound and his team backed it up with offense at the plate. The combination resulted in a loss for Post 9 at 14-0. Groton went on to win the tournament. In the championship game against Redfield on Sunday afternoon, Groton prevailed at 5-4 to take home the title.
