The American Legion Post 9 baseball team traveled to Groton on Saturday, June 10 to face Post 39. Milbank fell 16-6 (F/6) to the home team in their only game.Milbank tied the game in the top of the second inning when Merik Junker singled to right field, stole second and third, and eventually advanced home on a wild pitch.
Post 9 took a 2-1 lead in the third. Josh Pederson drew a lead-off walk and scored when Justus Osborn singled to center. Osborn stole second base, took third, and headed home on passed balls. Milbank led 3-1 after two and a half innings.Milbank trailed 5-3 in the top of the 5th, but Osborn’s lead-off walk got the offense started. Tanner Hallquist singled to left field to advance Osborn to third. Dillen Sheely scored Osborn with a line drive base hit to left field to edge Milbank closer at 5-4.
Milbank struggled defensively in the bottom of the fourth Milbank and found themselves needing to claw back from a 12-4 deficit. Pederson shot a line drive into centerfield to put a runner on first with one out. Osborn added his third single of the day to put runners on first and second. Junker drove a double out to center field to score Pederson and Osborn. The gap shrunk to 12-6, but Milbank gave up four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Post 9 fell 16-6.Osborn put up three hits. Junker added two.
