The American Legion Post 9 baseball team hosted Big Stone on Tuesday evening, June 13, at Pribyl Park. Milbank fell 10-7 in game one and 12-1 in game two.
The first match up started as a low-scoring affair. Milbank trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Josh Pederson led off the inning with a walk. Justus Osborn was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, and Tanner Hallquist drew a walk to load the bases. Dillen Scheely knocked out a two-RBI single to left to score both Pederson and Osborn. The games was tied at two. Owen Tesch doubled to deep left field to add another tick for Milbank and put the score at 3-2.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth, Big Stone was in the lead at 9-3. Post 9 hoped for a comeback. Merik Junker led off with a double. Scheely scored Junker with a single to pull Milbank closer at 9-4. Tesch reached on an error and Reese Rabe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jayce Jonason drew a walk to cut Milbank’s deficit to 9-5. Pederson sent a single to sharp left to score Tesch and Rabe. At 9-7, Milbank was back in the game! But their newfound euphoria was short-lived. Post 9 could not push another run across the dish. Big Stone claimed the win at 10-7.
Scheely led Post 9’s offense. He racked up two hits and three RBIs. Tesch, Junker, and Pederson added one hit apiece. In game two, Milbank couldn’t string enough offense together — Pederson and Osborn tallied their only hits. Post 9 fell 12-1.
