The Milbank Firechiefs crossed the South Dakota border to take on some tough Minnesota teams in the Rosen Tournament on June 24-25. The Firechiefs... Firechiefs Place Third in Rosen Tournament

The Milbank Firechiefs crossed the South Dakota border to take on some tough Minnesota teams in the Rosen Tournament on June 24-25. The Firechiefs defeated the Raymond Rockets 1-0 in game one, fell to the St. Paul Hops 5-0, and defeated the Rosen Express 2-1 for third place.

It wasn’t until the ninth inning that Milbank’s first run crossed the plate in their first game on Saturday. Cam May started on second base due to the extra-innings rule in tournament play. With one out, Kaden Krause moved May to third to put the winning run only 90 feet away. Kellen Hoeke’s squeeze bunt was perfect. May beat the play to the plate, and the Firechiefs defeated the Rockets in extra innings.

Dom Boerger earned the victory on the mound for Milbank. He allowed one hit and racked up 14 strikeouts in his complete game shutout.

Milbank was held scoreless in game two. The Firechief’s three hits came from Brady Krause, Jesse Krause, and Brady Femling.

In the third-place game on Sunday afternoon, Milbank took on the Rosen Express. K. Krause led off with a single to center. He then stole second.  Hoeke moved him to third with a bunt. K. Krause scored after an error by the Rosen catcher to put the score at 1-0.

Rosen tied things up with a solo home run in the fifth, but Milbank had a shot at walking it off in the seventh. Mitch Quade singled to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a passed ball and J. Krause bunted him over to third with one out. Merik Junker pinch hit. He scored Quade on the first pitch he saw to secure the victory for the Firechiefs.

Dom Boerger earned the win on the mound in relief of Mitch Quade. Quade tallied five strikeouts and allowed one run in five innings of work. Boerger also struck out five. See the Firechiefs back in action this Friday night against the Traders. The game starts at 8 pm. in Clark.
