Brenda Maass, coordinator of the food giveaways presented by the Grant County Christian Service Council and supported by Feeding South Dakota said, “The food giveaway on June 14 went great! We  ordered food for 325 families and had over 300 families (743 individuals) come through.”

Maass explained that after the giveaway, the remaining food was distributed to the volunteers to take home for themselves or to give to others in need.  She said, “We never are told the value of the food, but we are given the total pounds of food received. For this giveaway, the semi from Feeding South Dakota delivered 20,297 pounds of food. That means each family that came through received over 63 pounds of food!”

Maass also lauded the volunteers who make the event run so smoothly. “We had an awesome group of 40 volunteers this time. The volunteers are mostly representatives from several area churches, but we always have volunteers from Ameriprise, Medica, Knights of Columbus, Grant County Christian Service Council, and Valley Queen.”

She said Valley Queen is a perennial supporter of the giveaways. “They always provide a forklift operator, volunteers, and donate cheese to many of the giveaways.”
The next giveaway is scheduled for July 12.
