The Milbank 14U Junior Teeners won their regional tournament on July 11 in Flandreau. They defeated Sisseton 17-2 and Flandreau 11-1. They also took down Volga 17-7 in the championship to win the title. 

Junior Teener coach Brady Femling commented, “The guys are playing the best baseball I have seen out of this group at the right time. We look focused and are playing to win games. Our team is peaking at the perfect time, and I am looking forward to next weekend’s state tournament.”

Milbank outhit Sisseton 12-2 and outscored them 17-2. Jaxson Wiese led the way with three hits and three RBIs in the leadoff position. Jeryn Borrmann earned the win on the mound. He pitched all three innings and allowed only two hits. He struck out four Sisseton batters.

In game two, Milbank appeared hungry for their first regional crown in six years. Aiden Kelly toed the rubber for five innings until the mercy rule put an end to the tournament host’s hopes. Kelly hurled a no hitter. He struck out five batters on the way to Milbank’s 11-1 victory. Mack Koplin led the offense with three hits and five RBIs.

In the championship game, Milbank took an early lead and never looked back. Keaton Johnson had four hits and scored four runs. Jeter Scoular also added three hits and two RBIs. Koplin earned the win. He threw four innings and struck out three Volga batters. Milbank plays Tea on Friday, July 21, at noon in the first round of the 2023 VFW 14U State Tournament in Elk Point.
