MHS vocal students James Batchelor, Nick Fonder, Rachel Schulte, and Stella Wendland, performed in concert with the 49th South Dakota High School Honor Choir at Augustana University in Sioux Falls on August 4.
The event started on July 30 with preparation and rehearsals for the formal concert presented on Friday, August 4. The choir members performed under the direction of Dr. Jefferson Johnson, director of choral activities at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
The choir featured sophomore and junior students from across the state. Acceptance into the choir was based on an audition of a prepared solo, tonal memory, sight-singing ability, and a written test that assessed knowledge of musical terminology. Milbank Music Boosters provided scholarship assistance to the 2023 honor choir members.
