The Lady Bulldogs varsity tennis team hosted a triangular with Huron and Sioux Falls Christian at Cantine Courts on Tuesday, August 15. Huron, now 6-2, defeated Milbank 9-0. Sioux Falls Christian, now 3-0, also took the win at 9-0.

Milbank 0 vs. Huron 9
In the morning match against the Lady Tigers of Huron, Hope Karels (SR) at No. 1 battled AnneClaire Rubish (JR). Karels took the loss 10-9 (7-4). Ashlynn Lamp (SO) at No. 2 was defeated by Elizabeth Heinen (SR) 10-2. Jenna Korstjens (FR) at No.3 was defeated by Ann Hoek (JR) 10-2. At No.4, Amelia Pederson(SR) put up a fight against Say Glay (FR), but eventually was defeated 10-7. Caitlyn Frerichs (FR) at No. 5 was defeated by Paw Kler Moo (JR) 10-0. Jericho Jones (JR) at No. 6 was defeated by Madeline Kleinsasser (JR) 10-0. 

In doubles play, Karels and Lamp were defeated by Rubish and Heinen 10-2. Korstjens and Pederson were defeated by Hoek and Kleinsasser 10-3. Swanson and Payton Lamp (7th) were defeated by Glay and Moo 10-0.

Milbank 0 vs. Sioux Falls Christian 9
With temperatures hovering in the mid 80s, the Lady Bulldogs took on a mature Sioux Falls Christian team in their afternoon match. The Lady Chargers earned the “W” at 9-0.

At No. 1 in singles, Hope Karels gave Elsa Johnson (SR) a run for her money. Johnson collected the win at 10-8. At No. 2, Ashlynn Lamp was defeated by Halle Karmazin (SR) 10-0. At No. 3, Jenna Korstjens went down to Anna Westenberg (8th) 10-1. Amelia Pederson at No. 4 was defeated by Jade TenHaken (SR) 10-4. At No. 5, Caitlyn Frerichs was defeated by Elsje VanderDussen (SR) 10-2. Jericho Jones at No. 6 spot took the loss against Kasey Lemstra (JR) 10-2.

In doubles action, Karels and A. Lamp were defeated by Johnson and TenHaken 10-1. Korstjens and Pederson were defeated by Karmazin and Westenberg 10-4. P. Lamp and Swanson were defeated by VanderDussen and Lemstra 10-1.

What’s next for the Lady Bulldogs? Milbank travels to the Madison Tennis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, August 18-19. They will face a field of tough competition that includes Aberdeen Roncalli, Huron, Lennox, Rapid City Christian, St.Thomas More, Sioux Falls Christian, Spearfish, and Vermillion.
