Sophomore Jonathan DeBoer carded a 78 to claim third place for the Bulldogs in the annual POET Invitational Golf Tournament hosted at Whetstone Creek... DeBoer Gets Third and Keeton Fifth at POET Invitational

Sophomore Jonathan DeBoer carded a 78 to claim third place for the Bulldogs in the annual POET Invitational Golf Tournament hosted at Whetstone Creek Golf Course on Thursday, August 17.  Jonathan Lake of Watertown earned the medalist honors at 73. Brevin Fliehs of Groton took second at 76.

Joshua Keeton, a senior playing for MHS, also cracked the top 10. His score of 80 earned him fifth-place honors. Coach Mark Keeton commented, “Josh’s hard work in the summer is paying off. He has placed in two of our first three meets. To start the season, he finished 14th at Sioux Valley. He topped that with a fifth-place finish at the POET Invite that was highlighted by a personal best 35 on the front nine.”

The Bulldogs (355) landed in third place as a team. Watertown JV won the title, and Roncalli (342) was the runner up.

Coach Keeton said, “ It was great to get this meet in after we had to cancel last year after nine holes.  We had a great turn out – 75 golfers on the course.  Our boys had an impressive third-place finish as a team with only one opponent from our region finishing ahead of us.”

Team standings also included: 4. Sioux Valley (356)  5. Flandreau (364)  6. Groton (366) 7. Aberdeen Central JV (405), Redfield 433, and Mobridge-Pollock (442). Sisseton and Tiospa Zina were not able to field a complete team.

Milbank’s third-place win was made possible by scores from juniors Owen Fischer (95), Charlie Peery (102), Gregory Grabow (108), and sophomore Ryan Keeton also at 108. “I like where we are at with the scores we are posting,” Coach Keeton added.
