The Bulldogs rolled into second place at the 2023 NEC Boys Golf Meet on August 22. Six schools competed in the tournament hosted at Fisher Grove Country Club near Redfield.

Roncalli won the tournament, Groton came in third, and Redfield took fourth place. Tiospa Zina and Sisseton participated, but did not field complete teams. “As a team, I thought we played well to get into the second-place spot as Roncalli has a very good squad this year,” Mark Keeton, Milbank’s coach, remarked. “We need to have four guys playing to their potential in order to beat them, and we just haven’t done it yet. The potential is there, we just need to put it all together. As always, the goal is to be playing our best at Regions.”

Roncalli golfers Andrew Gerlach and Finn Anderson scooped up the top-two individual places. Gerlach at five under par for a 75 and Anderson at 77. Milbank’s Owen Fischer tied for third with Brevin Fliehs of Groton. They each carded a 78. Bulldog Jonathan DeBoer and Jesse Hernandez of Roncalli each carded an 80 to tie for fourth-place honors.

Charlie Peery of Milbank ended in a three-way-tie at 87 for seventh place with Carter Simon and Logan Pearson of Groton. Ryan Keeton claimed 11th place at 92.  Joshua Keeton tied for 12th place at 94 with Micah Zastrow of Redfield. Greg Grabow earned 15th with a 100, and Jackson Rude finished in 19th place at 115.

What’s next for MHS golfers? The Bulldogs traveled to Aberdeen today, August 29,  to take on Aberdeen Central at Lee Park Golf Course.
